Every DNS server in the world needs to update its record of what IP is associated with this domain.\u00a0 This is called propagation.\u00a0 In other words, propagation is the time it takes for the DNS (Domain Name System) to update globally following a change to DNS.<\/p>\n<p>Changes to <a href=\"https:\/\/xneelo.co.za\/help-centre\/domains\/what-is-dns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DNS records<\/a> do not propagate throughout the Internet\u00a0immediately,\u00a0as\u00a0all <strong>server caches first need to expire and refresh. The amount of time this process will take depends on the update:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DNS changes: 2 \u2013 24 hours<br \/>\nNS updates: 24 \u2013 48 hours<\/p>\n<p>During this time, if you are <strong>transferring your domain to another service provider<\/strong>, some nameservers will still refer to your site\u2019s old hosting location while nameservers that have already been notified of the change will refer to the new location.
