This file count includes everything on your account: emails, files, folders, images etc \u2013 anything you store on the server.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Directories with a large file count\u00a0<\/strong>(regardless of their size)<strong> can compromise a server\u2019s performance, and take a long time to back up.<\/strong> For this reason, the maximum number of <strong>files per directory<\/strong>, as well as <strong>files per hosting account<\/strong>, are restricted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>To maintain file system performance on Managed Servers, inode limits are set at 500,000 per account and 100,000 per directory<\/strong>. As per our <a href=\"https:\/\/xneelo.co.za\/legal\/acceptable-use-policy\/#diskusage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Acceptable Usage Policy<\/a>, accounts exceeding these limits will have those files and\/or directories excluded from our backup system.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How will I know if I have too many files?<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Should your account have any directories that exceed this limit, an <strong>email notification per domain will be sent<\/strong>\u00a0to both the Account Owner and the Technical Contact specifying a list of problem directories. This will allow you to take action by reducing your file count\u00a0and thereby ensuring that your account remains backed up.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>You can use an <a href=\"https:\/\/xneelo.co.za\/help-centre\/website\/ftp-quick-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FTP client<\/a> to view and manage\u00a0files on the server (see below).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>How to understand the directories<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The<strong>\u00a0home directory<\/strong> is the main folder\/directory within which all the other folders are located. Common culprits for folders that contain too many files here are backup folders, which can safely be removed as all site content is within the public_html.
