The folders and files in your hosting package can be accessed via the File Manager<\/a> or by using FTP<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The following files and folders should never be deleted<\/strong> from your hosting account as they perform important functions:<\/p>\n

Important files in the Home folder<\/h2>\n

Various files, such as zipped files or backup files, can safely be deleted from your Home directory, but the following files should never be deleted:<\/p>\n

public_html<\/strong><\/h4>\n

What looks like a folder is actually a “shortcut” or symbolic link to a different location on the server where your web content<\/strong> is stored. If this folder is inadvertently deleted, it cannot simply be recreated\u00a0\u2013 you will need to contact our Support team<\/a> for assistance.<\/p>\n

users<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This is the folder where all your mailboxes and mail<\/strong> is stored. It is often the source of disk over-usage<\/a> if mailboxes are left unchecked.<\/p>\n

The folders under\u00a0users\u00a0<\/strong>are the names of the mailboxes e.g. sales@example.co.za. <\/em>Below that are the names of specific subfolders saved within that mailbox, recognized by a fullstop (.<\/strong>) before the folder name. Within each of these subfolders are further subfolders such as\u00a0cur\u00a0<\/strong>(current mail which has already been viewed) and\u00a0new\u00a0<\/strong>(unread mail).<\/p>\n

While the contents of these files (i.e. emails) can be deleted, the users<\/strong> directory itself should not be deleted.<\/p>\n

passwd.cdb<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This file contains all your mailbox passwords<\/strong> in an encrypted format.<\/p>\n

Important Mail files<\/h2>\n

These Mail Transport Agent (MTA) files should not be deleted.<\/p>\n
