{"id":2653,"date":"2010-03-25T14:12:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-25T12:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/helpcentre\/?p=2653"},"modified":"2026-04-16T14:16:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T12:16:18","slug":"traffic-burst-notification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xneelo.co.za\/help-centre\/products-and-services\/dedicated-hosting\/traffic-burst-notification\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a Traffic Burst Notification?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Traffic Burst Notifications<\/b> are an early warning system for Managed Server, Self-Managed Server and Colocation customers to help identify a significant spike outside of normal daily traffic usage, including its highest usage times.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burst Notifications can be set up for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/xneelo.co.za\/help-centre\/control-panel\/monitor-traffic-on-managed-servers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Managed Servers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/xneelo.co.za\/help-centre\/control-panel\/monitor-traffic-on-self-managed-servers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-Managed Servers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/xneelo.co.za\/help-centre\/products-and-services\/colocation\/managing-and-monitoring-traffic-for-colocation-control-panel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colocation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This warning system is only effective once Burst Notifications have been configured according to your unique usage trends.<\/p>\n<p>To understand your trends, we would recommend reviewing your traffic reports and <a title=\"Awstats\" href=\"https:\/\/xneelo.co.za\/help-centre\/control-panel\/view-your-website-statistics-using-awstats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AWStats<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<p>If you get a rush of visits amounting to 300MB in 1 hour at lunchtime when you publish your latest news it is recommended to increase your burst notification to above this i.e. 400 MB. If you did over 400MB in 1 hour this may be classed as abnormal and something that the Burst Notification is designed to alert you to.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Managed Servers, Traffic Burst Notifications are configured by default to \u2018200MB in 1 hour\u2019 for the <strong>entire server<\/strong>.
