It’s one of the simplest steps to take to ensure the security of your data, and yet passwords are a neglected focus area for many online users.
Safeguarding your keys
Part of strengthening online security is tackling online vulnerabilities as a result of weak passwords. The weak password prevention feature in the konsoleH Mail Admin redesign is just one way that Hetzner is making your online life safer.
In the revamped Mail Admin tool, we do automated checking of new passwords against a digital password dictionary. This is done by checking your newly-created password against leaked, weak passwords logged over the past decade.
Our top five tips for password safety
- If you think your password is too long, it’s probably not. Our recommended password length in konsoleH 2 Mail Admin is 14 characters, although we have allowed for 8 with special characters.
- Your password could be a passphrase that only you know. The longer your password, the less need there would be to use special characters, but those are helpful in strengthening your password.
- Reviewing your passwords regularly may seem like a tedious task, but it’s worth doing. Changing your passwords periodically is essential, as you may not know that they are compromised.
- Just as you should not have one key to unlock all the doors to your home, using the same password for all of your profiles is not recommended.
- Storing your passwords on sites like LastPass or Google Passwords is also recommended good practice. This goes a long way to increase password safety. You only need to remember one password for all of the others that access your online profiles.
