Xneelo’s Carrier-Neutral Data Centre Park

Our Data Centre Park in Samrand replicates Hetzner Online’s award-winning, energy efficient German facilities and is currently our default hosting location. The facility is not in a direct flight path or low lying area and is centrally located between Johannesburg and Pretoria with a major power substation close by. A geotechnical audit has been done to ensure ground stability. The facility also meets all the relevant physical security requirements prescribed by the PCI-DSS – we are PCI-compliant.

Data Centre Features

  • Power

    An 11kV power feed from the power utility energises a fault-tolerant, medium-voltage ring that energises two, physically separated, low-voltage, 2MVA energy centres.

    These A- and B feeds power infrastructure services such as IT load, air conditioning, security systems and emergency lighting. They, along with the energy centres are fully redundant, with their own UPS and generator backup allowing full electrical failover between the A and B feeds.

    We have on-site fuel storage sufficient to run our generators for seven days continuously. Our UPS’s provide always-on power, with battery standby time of 30 minutes.

  • Connectivity

    Xneelo is a vendor-neutral data centre and welcomes any telco and content provider to grow the network ecosystem. We also host a local PoP of the INX-ZA internet exchange and have dual redundant fibre links into both Johannesburg and Cape Town NAPAfrica exchange points.

    Cable management by xneelo ensures scalability and reliability. All racks are provisioned with 100Mbps by default, upgradable to 1Gbps. Additional CAT6 copper and fibre can be provided.

    We provide optional internet transit connectivity via multiple upstream providers as well as large scale peering at both the INX-ZA and NAPAfrica internet exchange points.

  • Climate Control

    Xneelo operates an air conditioning system that is designed to be reliable, reduce carbon footprint and keep costs down. The system uses free cooling and cold aisle containment technology, reducing the reliance on mechanical cooling which results in significant power savings.

    We have been able to achieve a yearly average power utilisation efficiency factor (PUE) of 1.2 from 2015 to 2017. The cooling infrastructure provides a redundancy factor of N+2 with a total sensible cooling capacity of 1400kW. The environment is controlled according to standards set out by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

  • Juniper Network

    The xneelo hosting network is built on Juniper technology, that provides superior uptime and reliability, from edge to rack.

    The Juniper platform also provides a feature-rich API that allows us to leverage high levels of automation that helps keep operating costs down and providing a superior hosting experience.

  • Security

    We use technology-driven measures to provide perimeter, building and access-control security. The perimeter fence is backed by high voltage barriers, the latest video surveillance technology and response systems. All outdoor and indoor access zones, including colocation racks, are monitored by video surveillance.

    Biometric access control systems and progressive access policies allow unattended access to authorised visitors. Security personnel are on site 24/7 to ensure the safety of our visitors.

  • Fire-protection

    Our fire prevention strategy is achieved through a multi-zoned VESDA fire detection system that is deployed within the data centre, in the energy centres and the diesel tanks.

    Our fire prevention strategy is backed by stringent fire mitigation procedures and best practice.
