The story behind our new name

We’re still the same team, just with a new look and space to grow.

Twenty years ago, Hetzner began as a small South African start-up. We wanted to provide quality web hosting at a time when the internet was really just beginning in SA, and to do it in a way that would help our customers do their best work online. Since the start, our motto has been Trusted in Hosting, as our customers are always our first priority.

That hasn’t changed.

Over the years, we have expanded our product offering from shared web hosting to broader business enablement, all underpinned by our customer service team providing 24/7 assistance to our customers. None of that has changed.

We’re simply changing our name.

Why the change

 

Because way back in 1999, it didn’t seem likely that our small start-up would one day grow into a business that could compete on the international stage. Today that’s a reality – we already have an office in Vancouver, Canada. As we evolve our products and launch into new markets, we need to avoid brand confusion with Hetzner Online, a separate company to Hetzner SA who already has an international brand presence. That’s the reason for our new name and new logo, with the same motto. We’re still the same team and the same company, with the same values and ongoing commitment to be Trusted in Hosting.

Our New Name

We’re excited to share our new name and logo with you: xneelo (pronounced ex-nee-lo). We spent a lot of time exploring different options for our new name. The requirements were that it be short and meaningful – to ourselves and to our customers. Inspired by a Latin phrase that translates into the ability to ‘create something out of nothing’, we believe that xneelo speaks to the resourcefulness, ingenuity and industrious spirit of our customers – and of our own team.
It takes passion, determination and consistency to create and grow a business. To bring a dream to life. We’ve always thought of ourselves as enablers: offering a hosting service that empowers our customers to interact and grow their business online, creating a multiplier effect for society to thrive.

Our Customers

We’ve made our name change as simple as possible. In fact, all our customers need to be aware of are the new email addresses you can contact us on: for example, support@xneelo.com replaces support@hetzner.co.za. And remember that your invoice will now say ‘xneelo’ instead of ‘Hetzner’. That’s it.
All the parts that have made Hetzner what it is won’t change. Our company values, our founder and CEO, and our experienced leadership team who have been with us for many years remain the same. They are now xneelo’s values and leadership team. Our operational strategy remains unchanged.
We’re excited about our ongoing journey and our daily endeavour to remain Trusted in Hosting.

Our Brand Manifesto

Xneelo exists for and because of our customers: because of their creativity, their dreams and aspirations. We are a web curator: custodians of our customers’ hard work.

We exist to reflect their talents. We’re an art gallery, a design agency, a family business, a dream come true: we’re enabling the continuation of someone’s livelihood, we’re a serious hobby wanting to take flight.

We’re all of these things because our customers dare to step out and make something of themselves.

To create something that didn’t exist before.

Q: How does this affect me as a reseller?

The name change only affects you if you have told your clients that they are hosted with Hetzner – you can now tell them you are still hosted with Hetzner, but the name has changed to xneelo. If you make use of our logo on your website, you can download our new logo here.

Q: What about your konsoleH control panel?

Our name change will not affect our konsoleH control panel. Our new control panel, which is currently in development and is being rolled out in stages, will not carry the konsoleH name – it will simply be known as the xneelo control panel.

Q: As a South African company, why are you internationalising?

While our roots are proudly South African, we see the potential for further growth in new markets. We believe in the service we’re able to provide.
