How to create a cloud volume from a volume snapshot

Note: This article relates to a product currently in beta testing.

A volume is a detachable block storage device that can be attached to an instance to provide extra storage space, much like connecting a USB drive.

Creating a new volume from a volume snapshot entails essentially converting the static, point-in-time copy of the original volume into a usable storage device.

This new volume can be attached to instances, allowing you to access and manipulate the data preserved in the snapshot.

Steps

  • 1
Log in to your xneelo Cloud dashboard.
  • 2
Using the menu on the left, navigate to Storage > Volumes.
  • 3
On the right-hand side, above the list of volumes, click on + Create Volume.
  • 4
In the dialog box, provide a name for the new Volume.
  • 5
Within the Volume Source dropdown menu, opt for Snapshot. Note: Be aware that the options displayed at the bottom of the dialog box may differ based on the Volume Source chosen. Ensure that the appropriate selection has been made from the list.
  • 6
Next, click on Choose Snapshot and select the volume snapshot from the drop-down list which you want to use as the source for your volume.
  • 7
Leave the Type dropdown list in its default state.
  • 8
Specify the size of the required Volume in the Size (GiB) field. Note: You can leave this field as-is if you want to keep the volume the same size as the source snapshot
  • 9
Leave the Group dropdown list at its default value.
  • 10
Finally, click on Create Volume to create the new Volume, or Cancel to exit the process.
