The Cape Town WordPress community hosted their annual charity hackathon recently. Hetzner supports the important work done by these charity organisations by fully sponsoring their website hosting.
do_action hackathons are community-organised events that focus on using WordPress to give deserving charitable organisations their own online presence. Each do_action event includes participants from the local WordPress community coming together to plan and build brand new websites for a number of local organisations in one day. Social Media Managers, Content Managers, Project Managers, Designers, Developers, and Quality Assurance Testers all give of their time and expertise.
Charities or NGO’s are selected across a range of spheres including children’s needs, healthcare, education, animal needs, etc.
This latest event was held on Saturday 14 July in the V&A Waterfront, and was a great success, with nine NPO’s receiving new WordPress websites. Six of the nine websites are already live and the other three will be going live in the coming weeks, pending some content additions.
The live sites are:
- The Homestead Projects for Street Children
- Tygerberg Association for Persons with Physical Disabilities
- Iliso Care Society
- Kidz Adventure Camp
- Daughters of Destiny
- Usiko Stellenbosch
Hetzner would like to thank all the WordPress volunteers for giving their time and expertise towards this uplifting project.
