5 ways to use a WordPress blog to increase engagement

February 23, 2022

Using content marketing tactics such as blogging is a great way of generating traffic to your website. But getting traffic to your website is just half the battle. You want users to interact with your content, share it across social media, and keep coming back for more. In other words, engage. Engagement is essential for building a loyal reader base, attracting traffic, and increasing your business’s reach online.

In this post, we will outline five different ways to get readers excited about your content.

1. Write for your audience

Firstly, we recommend writing blogs specifically for your target audience. This process will involve identifying your readers’ problems, needs, demographics, and interests. Then, you will need to shape your posts to address these characteristics.

Writing targeted content is essential if you want to be relevant to your readers. Otherwise, you risk creating generic posts that your audience will simply skim over.

We recommend using analytics tools such as Google Analytics and Google Search Console to learn more about your audience. For example, where they’re based, and what search terms they used to find your content. Once you know what problems they’re trying to solve, you can write content to help them meet that need.

2. Create entertaining and valuable content

It might sound obvious, but writing valuable content is one of the best ways to increase engagement. If you can answer your readers’ questions and entertain them simultaneously, they’re more likely to enjoy interacting with your website.

There are several ways to create quality content. Personalising your content using your unique brand narrative will add authenticity and create awareness around your business and your expertise. These elements can make your blogs feel more personal to your readers.

You will likely want to optimise your content to make it more visible online. This is called Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). However, ‘keyword stuffing’ or repetitive language can quickly drive away your readers. We recommend writing for people above search engines. In other words, think back to the reader wanting to solve a problem. Does your blog answer their questions and help them solve their problem? What other value does it provide?

3. Use a consistent blogging schedule

You might not have time to publish a new blog post every day, but creating a consistent schedule can actually boost your audience engagement.

If your readers know when to expect new content, they might remember to check your website on those days. Consistently adding posts also ensures a healthy backlog of informative material. You might consider using a content calendar to set yourself up for success.

4. Ask for engagement and respond to it

One of the simplest ways to increase blog engagement is to actively ask for it. You might prompt readers to comment on your post, share it on social media, or sign up for your newsletter to receive more of your articles.

Many websites use Calls to Actions (CTAs) to encourage engagement. These are statements or questions that ask readers to perform specific actions. In other words, what do you want your readers to do next?

Once readers start interacting with your content, we recommend responding to it directly. For example, you might reply to any questions in your comments section. This back-and-forth could spark a longer conversation that further increases engagement.

5. Think beyond your blog

Consider looking beyond your blog posts to increase engagement. For instance, you can comment on similar articles in your niche and provide unique insight. Look for forums where your customer base or audience look for answers to their most common questions. If readers from similar sites see your input, they may be curious about what your website has to offer.

Also, remember to respond to readers on your Facebook and Twitter posts. These interactions can further build a strong relationship with your audience and encourage them to remain loyal to your site.

Blog engagement is essential if you want your website to be successful. If your audience interacts with your content and finds it memorable, they will be more likely to trust your business. Furthermore, if readers share your posts online, you can attract more organic traffic.
