How to add a user in Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, and AlmaLinux

This article provides step-by-step instructions for adding a user in Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, and AlmaLinux.
Note: The article focuses solely on the process of creating a new user account and does not cover advanced user privilege configurations.
Steps

1Connect to the instance's command line interface (CLI) using an SSH client, using the default user.

2Switch to the root user:
sudo su

3Run the following command to add the user:
Replace username with the desired username for your new user (exclude any spaces or special characters). The (-m) flag creates the user's home directory.adduser -m username

4Next, set the user’s password by running the following command:
Replace username with the user you created in the previous step. You will be prompted to enter and confirm a password for the new user. Follow the instructions on the screen.passwd username
What happens next
You will now be able to connect to the instance using the Console in the xneelo Cloud dashboard.
