Add plugins or page builders to your Managed WordPress site

Plugins can add all kinds of functionality and features to your WordPress site. Examples include things like calendars, forms, galleries, e-commerce or page builders, etc.

To see the wide range of plugins available, see the WordPress repository which offers over 55 000 plugins – and there are many others available elsewhere.

Plugins are very easy to add to your website and need no coding or intensive WordPress knowledge – just follow our step-by-step instructions below.

It is possible to add and remove plugins to try them out or compare them.

Note that the update and security of your plugins within Managed WordPress remains your responsibility – they can be updated from the Plugins menu from your admin dashboard. Be aware that not all plugins are compatible with each other and xneelo takes no responsibility for errors that may occur to your website. In most cases, however, such errors can be reverted by deactivating the relevant plugin.

Add a plugin

In this example we will be adding the popular Elementor page builder, which is installed as a plugin.

  1. Firstly, you’ll need access to your website’s WordPress administrative area by clicking in Edit in WordPress from the xneelo overview page
  2. On the left menu of your dashboard, click Plugins.
  3. Click Add New, either from the menu, or via the Add New button at the top of the Plugins page.
  4. Search for the plugin that your require – either by its specific name or by the type of plugin that you’re looking for.
  5. In the search field, add the name or type of plugin you’re looking for. Press Enter on your keyboard.
  6. Select a plugin. Pay particular attention to the star rating, that it has recently been updated (don’t use plugins that are no longer updated as these could pose a security risk) and that it is compatible with your version of WordPress.
  7. Click Install Now.
  8. Once it has completed installing, click Activate
  9. Looking at your left menu, you’ll now see a new menu item with the name of the plugin that you have selected – in our example, it is Elementor. Alternatively, the menu item may have been added under Tools.
  10. Use that plugin’s menu to personalise the item according to your needs. Each plugin will come with its own instructions, which you will find as a blue View details link on the Installed Plugin page. The best plugins will also offer support if you have problems.

Remove a plugin

If you decide not to use a plugin, then it is important to deactivate and delete it.

  1. On your WP-admin menu, click on Plugins, then Installed Plugins
  2. Find the plugin that you want to remove, then select Deactivate
  3. Once it is deactivated, click Delete to remove it completely
