How to order a subdomain via the xneelo Control Panel

The information in this article is related to the new xneelo Control Panel.
If you are still using konsoleH, refer to this article.

A subdomain allows you to host a separate website using your current domain name, without needing to register an additional domain name e.g. ‘shop.example.com’ is a subdomain of the domain ‘example.com’.

A subdomain can either be set up as:

  1. a hosting package,
  2. a Parked or Multiple domain (sharing the resources of the parent domain),
  3. by using DNS pointing
  4. or as a hosting package on a Managed Server

Applicable hosting fees apply, with no domain fees.

Add a subdomain in one of the following ways:

      • The primary domain is not registered at all

Note: The subdomain will not be created and you may launch live chat for assistance if:

          • The primary domain is not registered with xneelo
          • The primary domain is registered on a different xneelo account
          • The primary domain is not registered at all

        • Create a subdomain using DNS

If the parent domain and the subdomain are not going to be hosted in the same location, you will be required to manually create a DNS record on the DNS zone file for the parent domain, pointing to the IP address of the server on which the subdomain will be hosted.

Set up an A-record under the parent domain’s DNS using the DNS tool in the xneelo Control Panel:

          • Record type: A-record
          • Host: the ‘sub’ part of the subdomain e.g. store
          • Points to: IP address e.g. 196.22.123.10

        • Set up a subdomain on your Managed Server

Subdomains that have their own hosting package are set up as follows:

          1. 1
Log in to the xneelo Control Panel.
          2. 2
Under PRODUCTS in the side menu, select Managed Servers.
          3. 3
Select the server to which you would like to add the new domain.
          4. 4
Under Add packages, select Add hosting package.
          5. 5
Select your preferred hosting package and click Continue.
          6. 6
            Select Create a subdomain.
          7. 7
Enter the subdomain (leave out www) and click Search. If the subdomain is available you may click Continue.
          8. 8
Follow the prompts to complete your order.

                Assist Note

It will not be possible to add the subdomain to your account if a DNS zone file already exists for the subdomain.

                Assist Tip

If the parent domain is not managed on your account, the DNS will need to be updated on the parent domain to point to your subdomain. The following A-record should be created on the parent domain:

                • Record type: A-record
                • Host: the ‘sub’ part of the subdomain e.g. store
                • Points to: IP address of your subdomain
