How to order a subdomain
If you are using our new Control Panel, refer to this article.
Make the switch and discover a simpler, more secure way to manage your hosting.
A Subdomain allows you to host a separate website using your current domain name, without needing to register an additional domain name e.g. ‘shop.my-domain.co.za’ is a subdomain of the domain ‘my-domain.co.za’.
A Subdomain can either be set up as
- a hosting package,
- a Parked or Multiple domain (sharing the resources of the parent domain),
- by using DNS pointing,
- or as a hosting package on a Managed Server
Applicable hosting fees apply, with no domain fees.
Add a subdomain in one of the following ways:
1. Subdomain as a Web Hosting package
- Browse to konsoleH and log in at Admin level
- Select NEW ORDER (top right)
- Select your preferred package and hosting location
- Click Next
- Fill in the subdomain name you prefer (leave out www)
- Click Next and follow the simple steps to complete your order
- If the parent domain and the subdomain are not going to be hosted in the same location, i.e. South Africa or Germany, you will be required to manually create a DNS record on the DNS zone file for the parent domain, pointing to the IP address of the server on which the subdomain will be hosted. *See “Create a subdomain using DNS” below:
2. Subdomain as a Parked or Multiple Domain
- Browse to konsoleH and log in at Admin level
- Select or search for the domain name under which the subdomain will be created
- Select Manage Services
- Select Add Parked Domain or Add Multiple Domain
- Fill in the Subdomain name you prefer (leave out www)
- Click Next and follow the simple steps to complete your order
- If the parent domain and the subdomain are not going to be hosted in the same location, i.e. South Africa or Germany, you will be required to manually create a DNS record on the DNS zone file for the parent domain, pointing to the IP address of the server on which the subdomain will be hosted. *See “Create a subdomain using DNS” below:
3. Create a subdomain using DNS
Using the DNS tool in konsoleH, you will need to set up an A-record under the parent domain’s DNS, with:
- Record type: A-record
- Host: the ‘sub’ part of the subdomain e.g. store
- Destination: IP address e.g. 196.22.123.10
4. Setup a subdomain on a Managed Server
Subdomains for Parked or Multiple domains are set up as in point 2 above. Subdomains that have their own hosting package are set up as follows:
- Browse to konsoleH and log in at Admin level
- Select or search for your Managed Server
- Click Domain Management
- Select Add Domain
- Choose a Web Hosting package
- Click Next
- Select Create a subdomain and enter the name i.e. subdomain.my-domain, without the preceding www, and then select the domain extension from the drop-down list.
- If the parent domain and the subdomain are not going to be hosted in the same location, i.e. South Africa or Germany, you will be required to manually create a DNS record on the DNS zone file for the main domain, pointing to the IP address of the server on which the subdomain will be hosted.
- Click Next and follow the remaining steps.
